How to wear the Monochrome trend
Monday 5 June 2017
Who said that monochrome rhymed with monotone? This season monochrome looks are very trendy and are everything but boring! We spotted the trend during the last Parisian Fashion Week when Gucci, Nina Ricci, Jill Sander all presented at least one monochromatic outfit on the runway.
Generally, my personal shopper and stylist expertise leads me to advise my clients to wear 3 different colors for a better visual harmony. However, when well executed, the monochrome look also has its benefits: it’s very stylish and elegant, and you’ll look longer and leaner!
Tips to rock the Monochrome trend:
-Choose the colors that are most suitable for you. My first advice is to book a color analysis (colorimetry) to determine which palette of colors reveals your natural assets. Wearing only one color has a significant impact on your complexion. It can be very flattering and reveal a healthy glow, or the color can take too much space and make your face “disappear” behind the outfit. If you can’t try the color analysis, I recommend, in the first instance, that you figure out if cold or warm nuances suit you the best.

-Think contrasts to avoid outfits that are too basic! YES to wearing monochrome while combining different textures and fabrics: a linen tee with a silk skirt, a glitter dress with a leather jacket, denim with lace, thin fabrics with thick garments…

-Play with layers, volumes and lengths: for instance, wear a maxi-cardigan with a mini-skirt.

Practical application: how to wear the Monochrome trend
– The total look: it’s one of the easiest to wear, and also one of my favorites. We all have 2-3 grey, beige or navy pieces that can easily go together for a killer outfit. The most adventurous fashionistas will try the red monochromatic style!

-If you don’t have several pieces of the same color, opt for the monochromatic camaïeu: choose a dominant color (for instance grey), and then combine it with varying tones of that color (such as dark grey, light grey, or cold nuances like icy grey-blue…).

-Play it “almost monochrome” by highlighting ONE piece of your outfit of a different color (I recommend that you choose an accessory, like your shoes or your bag).
