If you’re following my blog you know that I love handcrafted brands that combine tradition, know-how and modernity. Today I’ll introduce you to Ball Pagès, a label created by the Catalan Gemma, a former architect (she used to work for Jean Nouvel in Paris) who decided in 2014 to take a new path to assert her creativity. By revisiting the traditional espadrille from Ibiza, Ball Pages was born: contemporary and original sandals and espadrilles, designed in a trendy boho-chic style, with respect to traditional local craft techniques.
The name of the brand is a tribute to the performers of the traditional folk dances of the area, the “ball pagès” who are wearing these sandals made from 100% natural hemp. Each Ball Pagès’s model is handmade and comes in different colors and styles. The brand was created in 2013, and is now internationally recognized.
I may not be 100% objective about the brand because I have been personnally involved with the project since it was created. I have been following the brand ever since. One thing is certain: every time I am wearing my Ball Pagès sandals, people notice and ask me where they come from…that’s the ultimate proof of success for a brand !
The Summer 2017 collection integrated the basic elements of their product with new technological advancements, such as a leather sole to reinforce the espadrilles. Of course, since the brand is growing, it’s also widening its line, now offering flat sandals (called destalonadas), or “cover” models (super trendy this season).
And there we go again with my favorite word : VERSATILITY. These espadrilles are a basic that will match all your summer outfits! They’re obviously super cute with your holiday looks, but I love to wear mine with city outfits too (like suit pants and a blazer) because I love the contrast of styles !
